Talking about death can be hard. People don’t always know what to say or who to say it to. They get stuck in fear and ultimately lose their power to choose what they want their death to look like as well as how they want to step into this natural process. Nearly 80% of people envision a peaceful end of life in the comfort and security of their home. Yet only 20% accomplish their vision. This is why I offer to be the liaison for early and honest conversations during this phase of life everyone will face. My goal as a DD is to empower clients to step away from the negative stigma of death and embrace a personal choice and style as end-of-life approaches. What exactly is a Death Doula A “death doula” is someone who serves as a guide, an advocate, and experienced professional for the dying and their loved ones. Death Doula services range from pre-planning, legacy work and respite services. Death Doula can continue all the way to after-death care and support of loved ones. My approach is always fluid, however the foundation is to empower, assist and support via the incorporation of ancient and modern death doula techniques of mindfulness practices and even herbal support for physically, emotionally,mentally and spiritually care for the dying. The focus is on "whole being" caregiving for home deaths but can be implemented into other settings such as acute care and basic physical care for bedridden individuals, to create a more holistic experience.
